This is a rendition of Wassily Kandinsky’s painting entitled
“Murnau St.” The picture measures 10x8 not including the frame. The medium used
was pastels in a vast array of colors such as, red, yellow, blue, green, and
pink. The use of pastels allows for an impressionistic depiction of what was an
actual landscape. Each color flows into the other creating a vibrancy and
intensity that captures more emotions than an accurate depiction of the
location. The frame, which is a painted wood with canvas inlay, emphasizes the vivacity
of the artwork with its muted colors and simple, geometric structure. Overall
the piece captures the energy transmitted in the original work by Kandinsky,
and the choice to use pastels instead of paint makes it a unique interpretation
of the master painters work.
