Artifact Blog #2

Artifact

This ring is no ordinary ring. It carries with it emotions and memories. Also it is a perfect representation of my personal aesthetic during this period of my life, since my taste changes. This particular ring stands out amongst the bowl of cocktail rings I have to choose from, and because of that I wear it most frequently. This ornament is one with sentimental value, because it was a gift from my sister- someone that shares similar taste. However it is the sheer beauty and elegance of the design that I love so much. The intricate pattern of turquoise with hints of gold, blue, and red stone creates a geometric design that is both playful and intriguing to the eye. I especially am attracted to organized, well thought out forms of art. Geometric patterns and symmetrical images that utilize color and vibrancy are most pleasing to me visual. This trinket also suggests an antique background, possibly native American or Aztec, which I often gravitate to. It arouses a feeling that you are holding something that is not of today’s world. The weathered silver further asserts this notion that this is indeed an antique object. Possibly one passed down through the centuries by fashionable ladies who express themselves through adornment.

Every time I take this ring out in public I receive compliments on it, which is the definition of a successful design- mass appeal.  Because I wear it so often many memories have been attached to the sterling silver artifact.  Merely seeing this design or wearing it evokes an emotional reaction. Immediately the wearer is transformed to another time another place where small details still hold value. The creator, who I imagine was an artisan from long ago, had an exquisite eye for design, and a taste that has lasted through the ages. The best designs are those that translate across time without adaptation.
