BP: Peer Review 5&6

Taylor Newman

This informance movie featured interesting facts about the city of Indianapolis. This is actually a city I used to live in so I was familiar with many of the images shown throughout the movie. Taylor did a good job of addressing all of the aspects required for this project. She included media impact when explaining how the media’s view of the city has increased the population. She addressed the culture of consumerism through mentioning the various events that take place in Indianapolis. She featured many beautiful photos of the city, like the one shown above, that illustrate how the human experience is enhanced. Also she focused on particular businesses that attract tourists and help define the city as a whole. Overall, I thought the images and videos she chose were effective in exemplifying her points. Her inflection could have been more pronounced, but that would be my only criticism.

Katie Rawlings

This movie focused on the Myrtle Beach attraction, Wonderworks. In my opinion this video was less effective at addressing the key points from the rubric. Although each one of the questions was mentioned there was not enough information or in-depth analysis. I also think that the quality of the videos she used and the choice to not provide any voice over hurt her presentation overall. The piece was informative but I did not get a sense that this was a film about the design behind Wonderworks. I wanted to learn about the creation and development of the designs chosen, since, like the picture seen above, they are so unique. The portion when the man was speaking simply describing the park detracted from the focus of the piece, and moved it away from design elements to an advertisement.

Both of these films focused on a particular location, and they represent how crucial it is to find a central focus when the topic is a large place. The first film felt more cohesive and implemented better editing tools than the second.
