BP: Designer Profiles 2-4

Adam Logsdon
Grad Student @ UK
Architect at Gray Construction

Adam developed an interest in design at a young age. As a child he was drawn to toys that allowed him to build and bring his imagination to life. Because of this inherent skill he decided to take drafting classes in High School, which is what propelled him to major in architecture at UK. Currently he is completely Grad School through UK to further enhance his degree, but he has already begun work as an architect at Gray Construction here in Lexington.

One of the most impactful aspects of Adam's design career was his voyage throughout Rome and Paris through a study abroad program. Here he developed one of his defining characteristics of his work-the ability to combine the old with the new. Some of his projects while he was there literally requested that he take old remnants from Roman ruins and incorporate them into modern buildings.

For Adam the future of design lies in technology, particularly the expansion of 3D printing. Adam experience with the newest technology for architects will definitely help him leave his mark on the world. In fact he has already been recognized nationally for a shelf design he created while at UK

Julie Sniadowski
Grad Student @ UK

Julie came from an art background, with her primary medium being painting. The expansion of her artistic abilities ultimately made Julie consider a practical application of this ability, which leads to drafting classes in high school. Through engineering design classes Julie decided to declare a design major at the University of Kentucky, where she received a bachelors degree in 2015. Today she primarily works on precedent projects and digital fabrication.

While at UK, Julie took advantage of an opportunity to study abroad in Rome and Paris. This inspired her and motivated her to create designs that built off of previous design ideas. She believes that each design in today’s world is a riff off of someone else’s. This attitude has allowed her to accept inspiration from the people around her, and view their ideas as launching points for her own.

This designer believes the future of this field is technology based. Being a problem solver, Julie hopes in the future she can make the impossible possible, and create designs that tackle real world problems

Heather Hemmer
Student @ UK

Heathers biggest inspiration is ghost chairs. This designer has made quite a transformation from an athletic logical driven student, to a lover of the arts and the abstract. Heathers initial attraction to design began with a desire to expand her studies in High School. The choice to take a single art class aroused enough interest for Heather to find a career within the realm of art. Design made sense to her because it was both logical and creative. A way to expand her mind and put her superior math skills to good use. Currently she is a design major at UK and is preparing to take her next steps into the world as a designer.

This young lady draws inspiration from all facets of life- fashion, furniture, traveling are all included on her mood board of creativeness. Heather is all about the natural evolution of design. She lets the environment tell her what’s meant to be there instead of coming in with preconceived notions. Her biggest asset though is her knowledge on self-promotion. Heather understands the business side of design and the importance of branding yourself  as much as anything else. Many of her current projects are focused on real world applications. Heather has the skills and the imagination to create a complete project proposal with ingenuity and clarity.

Thailand is a future destination for Heather, and a place she hopes will become her muse. For her the future of design is all about personal growth, and being able to make your aesthetic fit with your clients. Even though she is in the process of attaining her Bachelors degree, Heather knows what she wants to do after college. This designer has a plan and is ready to execute it.
