My group consisted of various automobiles- an old Camaro, a
scion, and then my Harley Davidson motorcycle. Although we all chose a form of
transportation, the approaches that we were each planning to take were slightly
different. This confirms how everyone has a different perspective on how they
view the world. The Camaro was a dream car for this group member, and his lack
of ownership did not subdue his interest in this old muscle car. His plan is to
show the Camaro throughout history, highlighting the fact that it is still a
beloved American car to this day.
The Scion decided to focus less on the history and more on
the actual design of the model she personally owns. She explained how she
planned on emphasizing the ways in which a Scion model is different from other
competitors in its class. For my artifact, the Harley, I want to create a blend
of footage that emphasizes the elements of design as well as cultural impact.
It was suggested to me during this “elevator speech” that I should pick a
particular model to focus on, and since I have access to both an older and
newer model this was a hard decision. Ultimately my choice is a Dyna-street bob
2009 model. The reasoning for this is I want to exhibit the progression this
particular brand has made over the years, and how those changes in design were
impacted by cultural demands.
Overall, this exercise validated, in my mind, that each one
of us experiences the world in our own unique way. Each and every one of these
perceptions is important and meant to be shared.
